Two Brave Girls

I’m a feminist and admired many women for what they did for the people, may it be the nation or their own family. However, there have been very few instances where I have seen a woman doing something better than a man. I’m not comparing or complaining, however, I do think that there are certain things which men to better than women and similarly, there are many things which women do better than men.

I have seen men doing things to prove them better than women or women trying to beat men in their own den. I think many of the women and men have succeeded in their attempts, however till now, I haven’t seen a single living example.

But this is about those two exceptions. The two exceptions who proved, at least to me, that it isn’t about being a guy or a gal, it’s about having a big heart filled with helluva courage.

The story is about me traveling from one part of India to another and meeting two girls, (women, if you will) whom I added to my exceptions list. I boarded the train from half way of the train’s total journey with 24 more hours of journey left.


Girl One

She was a south Indian girl from Bangalore and travelling to Delhi to catch another train to meet her husband in Punjab which is more than 2500 km. She was physically disabled (crippled). I didn’t get into the technicalities of it like when and how did it happen and seriously, you wouldn’t have too as she was happy go lucky kind of girl that I wasn’t, even for a second, serious with her. We were all joking and enjoying the wonderful journey. She was travelling alone in a condition in which I would haven’t have taken a single step without a helping hand. Then, to be brave enough to be travelling alone, knowing how dangerous it can be especially in Northern India were the crime rate against women in more than other parts.   

Girl Two

She was from Northern India and coming from Bangalore, again to Delhi and then to Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir. For her, the journey was for more close to 72 hours. I’m not a traveler and don’t enjoy traveling large distances. I’d rather stay home or take a flight. But this girl was different. This may not sound brave or courageous to some/many but I surely seemed to me. She travelled 72 hours more than 3000 kms that too without a confirmed seat which means she didn’t a reserved seat in the train and had to travel sitting/lying anywhere she saw an open space. I thought this was stupid at first as I would have never travelled without a reserved ticket. She told me that she had done this a lot of times earlier too. She, again, was traveling alone. I was amazed to see the confidence and courage to move freely in a man dominated world.

Well, I bow to these girls and they may not read this or know it, but I admire their guts. I wish to match their courage one day. Glad that i'm still connected to them via FB. We exchanged number before we got down at the last station.

Smile Behind the Veil

Hey All,

I clearly remember this day. I had newly shifted to the new city, Bangalore/Bengaluru, and didn't know many people around expect a couple of school mates and my cousin. I moved in with my friend and comuted daily via public bus service to my workplace. I was very used to buses as that was the mode of transportation for me throughout my
graduation. I like traveling in buses but yea, having a vehicle at your disposal is different and preferred.

So, this was one of those days to office, I was waiting for the bus on the bus stop and being a single guy in the city, i was looking ogling at almost every beautiful girl around me. While, i was looking ogling at girls, suddenly i saw the bus coming. I'm a calm bus boarding guy. I don't rush in to the bus to grab the best seat. As there was already a long queue and man handling going on at one door of the bus, i opted for the other door because of lesser crowd. I had my ear phones plugged and was listening to music and was about to board the bus, when i was suddenly pushed forcefully. In a second, i saw a women/girl/lady, obviously a female, who pushed me in order to get into the bus first as the driver had already started moving the bus. She pushed me and went in and i followed after that. Inside the bus, she looked at me and said something. Obviously, i didn't hear what she said cause i had my earphones and was listening to loud music.

I paused it, i gave her an eye signal "What ???"
She said "&(*&^*^&*^*^%^&%" (No, she wasn't abusing me, this is tell that she spoke in a language which i didn't understand)
I told her, "I don't understand Kannad(a Language Spoken In Southern India) "
She said, "I was saying i'm sorry for pushing you"
Me, "It's alright, may be i have done the same............well.....i would never do the same.....but it's fine."

She smiled at me. I know she did, i could tell that by looking at her eyes, though that only the only part of her i saw. She was a Muslim lady/girl/women, definitely a female. Apparently, here in Bangalore Muslim women wearing Burkha/veil is very usual which wasn't in Delhi.

Muslim women are very beautiful and yea, i have seen many and i know many people would double that vote, however, the only agony is that they wear burkha and we don't get to see them.

I wish i had a better luck.

Orkut Buyukkokten

Orkut Buyukkokten's(35) Birthday Today, i know you have never heard of this name earlier, but you have seen his work that's why they say, that you should know about things you are using even though if it doesn't matter to you.

So who is Orkut Buyukkokten???? By a simple guess, you must have reconginzed that this guy is somewhere related to Orkut.com. Yea, you people are correct that he is related to Orkut.com but that won't be the perfect way of describing it. Orkut Buyukkokten is a Turkish software engineer who developed the social networking service Orkut. He completed his graduation from Bilkent University in Ankara, and then his  Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University. Buyukkokten  started working with Google in the year 2002 and is now one of their top employees.

About Orkut, i mean Orkut.com, which is the third largest social networking site online, is the most preferred social networking site in India. It took over India by the year 2004 and reached hundreds and thousands of Indian users in just 2 years. Still Orkut rocks in India. After India, Brazil is the second country according to users/population ratio. Then there is Pakistan and China. Though, China has one local social networking site in their native language but still Orkut has a big market share their.

One thing got me confused here was ...............even Orkut is so widely used in the two largest populated countries of the world......still it's number third.......May be wikipedia has not updated their information.(I was trying to pull off a joke, in case you didn't get it or didn't laught)

Any ways.....being a Orkut fan and Orkut user(How stupid of me to tell that.....isn't that obvious being an Indian with internet connection), this is my way if showing gratitude to this guy Orkut Buyukkokten,who certainly made changes to my life.

So girls, leave you Orkut Id here.....!!!!!! and i'll see you there.
